  1. Connect Google Cloud without a key file

One click signs you in to Google, sets up a service account in your project that only your workspace can use, and then lets the sign-in go. No key file is made, and the access VPS Snaps uses expires within the hour.

    Google Cloud
  2. Set up backups from Claude Code or Cursor

Connect an AI assistant to VPS Snaps over MCP with an API key. It looks at your server, proposes a backup plan and, once you agree, installs the Agent and the jobs. API keys can be limited to reading and running. Standard plan and up.

September 2026

  1. An Agent install for databases only, without root

If an Agent only backs up databases, the dashboard gives you a command that runs it as an ordinary user with no access to Docker. The full install is still there for file and Docker jobs.

    The Agent
  2. Security fixes

  3. Uptime monitoring and status pages

Watch websites and ports, and give cron jobs a heartbeat URL to call. An outage is checked three times before you are alerted, and the alert says how old that server's newest backup is. Publish a status page for your customers, on your own domain with the Agency plan. Starter plan and up.

    Uptime monitoring
  4. Back up to Google Drive

Sign in with Google and send backups to a folder in your own Drive instead of an S3 bucket. VPS Snaps can only see the files it creates there.

  5. Recovery servers, test restores and failover on Google Cloud

Google Compute Engine can build a recovery server, run scheduled test restores, and fail over by moving a static external IP.

  6. Cloudflare DNS zone backups

Keep every record in a Cloudflare zone in your own storage, as a file any DNS host can import. A restore shows you what has changed and writes back only those records. On every plan, Free included.

    DNS backups
  7. Recovery servers and failover on AWS EC2

Build a recovery server on EC2, run test restores there, and fail over by moving an Elastic IP.

  8. Failover by DNS, on any cloud

Connect Cloudflare and failover can point your domain's A records at the recovery server instead of moving an IP, so it works on every cloud VPS Snaps supports. Nothing else in the zone is touched.

  9. Failover on Vultr, Linode and Azure, and recovery servers on Azure

Failover moves a reserved IP on Vultr, the server's own IP on Linode and a static public IP on Azure. Azure can also build recovery servers and run test restores.

  10. Restored files checked against the backup

After a file restore, every file written is compared with what the backup holds, and any that differ are listed. Restores also work on servers that use the Agent.

  11. Security fixes and bug fixes

  12. Recovery servers bring the software back too

A recovery server built from backups reinstalls what the old server ran: its packages, web server, PHP, TLS certificate, cron jobs and services. Linode can now build recovery servers and run test restores, and AWS Lightsail can run test restores.

  13. Security fixes and bug fixes

  14. Connect Railway and Azure by signing in

Railway connects with a Railway sign-in and Azure with a Microsoft sign-in, so there is no token to create and paste.

  15. Recovery servers on Hetzner, Vultr and AWS Lightsail

Recover now builds replacement servers on Hetzner, Vultr and Lightsail as well as DigitalOcean, and Lightsail instances can be backed up with snapshots.

  16. Server host keys are pinned

VPS Snaps records each server's host key the first time it connects. If the key ever changes, runs stop before a password is sent, until an owner accepts the new one.

  17. Bug fixes

  18. Recovery servers, warm standby and automatic failover

Recover now builds a replacement server on your own cloud account from the newest snapshot or backups, starting with DigitalOcean. Pro and Agency can keep one ready and move traffic to it automatically. Recovery servers are on Standard and up.

    Recovery and failover
  19. Download, verify, pin and clone backups

Download a backup straight from your own storage, check it again against the checksum it was taken with, pin up to five per job so retention keeps them, or copy a job's settings into a new one. Each job also has a printable runbook for restoring without VPS Snaps.

  20. An alert when a job stops producing backups

If a job goes three times its usual interval without a successful backup, you hear about it, with the age of the newest good one.

  21. Security fixes and bug fixes

  22. Move an application to a new server

Pick a detected application and VPS Snaps checks both servers, creates its database on the new one, backs it up, restores it there and compares the two. The old server is only read. Standard plan and up.

    Switching providers
  23. Restore an application's files and database together

One restore brings back both halves of an application, and warns you first if the two backups were taken far apart.

  24. Recovery point and recovery time from real runs

Each job shows how much data you would lose if the server failed now, against what its schedule allows, and how long its restores have actually taken.

  25. Database dumps checked for completeness

A database backup must end with the marker the dump tool writes last, so a dump that stopped partway is reported as failed.

  26. Bug fixes

  27. Scheduled test restores

On a schedule you choose, the newest backup is restored onto a throwaway server on your own cloud, checked, and the server deleted. A backup that will not restore alerts you that day.

    Restore testing
  28. Export your backup history

Download every run as a CSV, filtered by job and date, with sizes, checksums and errors exactly as recorded. Useful when an auditor or a client asks.

  29. A log of who did what in your workspace

See who deleted something or ran a restore, and when.

  30. Connect AWS S3 with a role, not a key

Let VPS Snaps assume a role in your AWS account instead of pasting an access key. Each use gets credentials that expire within the hour, so there is no long-lived key to leak.

  47. File and Kubernetes backups

Back up any folder on a server over SSH, with patterns for what to leave out, and back up Kubernetes namespaces with Velero or as manifests and volume snapshots.

    File backups
  48. The Agent, and backup jobs suggested from a scan

The Agent backs up machines with no way in from the internet: one container that only connects outward. VPS Snaps can also scan a server and offer backup jobs for the applications it finds.

    Application backups
  49. Hetzner, Vultr, Linode and AWS EC2

Four more clouds for provider snapshots: Hetzner and Vultr with an API token, Linode with a Linode sign-in, and AWS EC2 with a scoped IAM key.
