VPS Snaps vs Weap.io
They cost less. We do more after the backup.
Weap.io snapshots ten clouds and backs up MySQL and PostgreSQL at a lower price per server. We add dashboard restores, scheduled test restores and replacement servers.

The short version
We wrote both columns. If the left one describes you, buy theirs — you will be happier and we would rather not have the churn.
Pick Weap.io if…
Six situations where they are the better answer.
- You want the lowest price per server. Their €7 Starter covers up to ten servers, databases and sites combined; our $15 Starter covers 5 servers and 3 backup jobs. The gap is wide at every tier.
- Your servers are on UpCloud, Scaleway, Exoscale, OVH Public Cloud or Alibaba Cloud. They snapshot all five; we have no integration with any of them.
- You want frequent backups and long retention on the cheapest plan. Every plan of theirs runs database and file backups up to every 5 minutes and keeps daily, weekly and monthly copies. Our Starter runs daily and keeps 3 days.
- You want backups encrypted with a key only you hold. They encrypt database backups with a private key you generate. We don't encrypt the archive itself; it sits in your bucket under whatever encryption and access rules you set there.
- You snapshot DigitalOcean volumes, or want snapshots copied to a second region. Both are on their DigitalOcean page. Neither is something we do.
- You want storage included, or to back up to Azure Blob Storage or SFTP. Their plans carry 5 GB to 250 GB, and their docs cover both destinations. Ours include no storage, by choice, and write to S3-compatible buckets or Google Drive.
Pick VPS Snaps if…
Six situations where we are.
- You want a restore button for database and file backups. Ours restore from the dashboard onto any server in your workspace, after backing up whatever they are about to overwrite. Their documentation's only restore-related page explains decrypting a database backup before restoring it.
- You want proof a backup restores without doing it yourself. A scheduled test restore builds a throwaway server on your own cloud, restores the newest backup onto it through the same code a real restore uses, checks it, and deletes the server.
- You want the server back, not only the data. From Standard we build a replacement server on your own cloud from the newest backup, and Pro and Agency can keep one warm and fail over to it.
- You back up more than MySQL, PostgreSQL and files. We add MariaDB, MongoDB, Docker volumes, Kubernetes, WordPress sites through a plugin, Cloudflare DNS zones and managed Postgres on Railway, Render and Coolify.
- You want uptime monitoring in the same place. Monitors confirm an outage before alerting and put the server's newest backup in the alert, with status pages, from Starter up.
- You want a free plan, or annual billing. Our Free plan backs up one server daily, forever, with no card; they offer a 14-day trial. Annual billing takes about a third off ours; they bill monthly only.
Price, tier by tier
Matched by position, which is the closest honest alignment and still a loose one: their tiers count servers, databases and sites together, and ours count servers and backup jobs.
| Tier | VPS Snaps | Weap.io | Their tier includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| FreeNo match on their side | Free1 server · 1 job · daily · 1 day kept | — | 14-day free trial, no free plan |
| Startervs their Starter | $15/mo$10/mo billed annually5 servers · 3 jobs · daily · 3 days kept | €7/mo | Up to 10 Cloudlets, Databases & Websites · 5 GB storage |
| Standardvs their Standard | $45/mo$30/mo billed annually15 servers · 20 jobs · every 12 hours · 14 days kept | €25/mo | Up to 50 · 25 GB storage |
| Provs their Pro | $85/mo$57/mo billed annually40 servers · 50 jobs · every 5 minutes · 30 days kept | €75/mo | Up to 500 · 250 GB storage |
| AgencyNo match on their side | $175/mo$117/mo billed annually150 servers · 250 jobs · every 5 minutes · 90 days kept | — | No tier at this position |
Every plan of theirs includes: Unlimited backups and snapshots, database and file backups up to every 5 minutes, daily, weekly and monthly retention, encryption, and bring-your-own storage.
Read that honestly: per server backed up, theirs costs much less at every tier, and their cheapest plan runs backups more often and keeps them longer than ours. What the difference buys here is breadth, and what happens after the backup: restores from the dashboard, scheduled test restores and replacement servers.
Ten clouds against eight
Both take provider snapshots through the cloud's own API, so the snapshot stays in your account. The lists overlap on five.

After the backup
Restore from the dashboard. Database, file and Docker runs restore onto any server in your workspace. Whatever is about to be overwritten is backed up first, and the restore refuses to continue if that fails.
Test restores on a schedule. A throwaway server on your own cloud gets the newest backup, is checked, and is deleted. A backup that does not come back alerts you the day it is tested, not the day you need it.
A replacement server. From Standard, we build a new server on your cloud from the newest backup when the original is gone; Pro and Agency can keep one warm and fail over.

Weap.io prices and plan limits were read from weap.io/pricing in October 2026. They are shown in euros as published, not converted, and their FAQ says they bill monthly only. Their cloud and database lists come from their documentation, which gives each as the complete list of what they support; everything else in their column comes from their product pages. Where those pages do not say, the cell reads "Not stated", which is a fact about their marketing rather than their software. Prices and features may have changed since. Our column is read live from the plan records this app enforces.

Is Weap.io cheaper than VPS Snaps?
Per server, yes, at every tier, and by a wide margin. Their prices are in euros and ours in dollars, and we have not converted theirs, because the rate moves; the table shows both as published. What the difference buys on our side is in the list above: restores from the dashboard, test restores, replacement servers, and the backup types they do not list. If snapshots and MySQL or PostgreSQL dumps are all you need, theirs is the better deal.
Which clouds does each one cover?
Both snapshot DigitalOcean, Hetzner, AWS EC2, AWS Lightsail and Google Cloud. They also cover UpCloud, Scaleway, Exoscale, OVH Public Cloud and Alibaba Cloud, which we do not. We also cover Vultr, Linode and Azure, which are not on their list. On both, a snapshot stays in your own cloud account and is restored from the provider's console.
Do you encrypt backups?
Not the archive itself. Every credential you give us, from provider tokens to SSH keys and database passwords, is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the archive goes to your own bucket, where your bucket's encryption and access rules apply. Weap.io offers encryption with a private key only you hold. If whoever can read your bucket is part of what you are protecting against, that is a real advantage of theirs.
Can I run both while I decide?
Yes. Snapshots live in your cloud account whichever product takes them, and our archives are plain .sql.gz and .tar.gz files in your own bucket. Point both at the same server for a week and keep the one you trust. Nothing needs migrating in either direction.
Is this comparison kept current?
Our column is read live from the same plan records the app enforces, so it cannot drift. Their column was read off weap.io and docs.weap.io, with the date printed under the table. If it looks stale, treat their pages as the source of truth, and tell us so we can fix it.
Powerful features to give you peace of mind
Rest easy knowing your data and your reputation are safe.
- Bring your own storage
- Backups land in your own S3-compatible bucket — Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2, or plain S3 — or in your own Google Drive. You hold the keys and the data.
- Snapshots stay with your provider
- Provider snapshots are created through the provider's own API and never leave your account. We store the snapshot ID, not the image.
- Eight providers, one dashboard
- DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Vultr, Linode, AWS EC2, AWS Lightsail, Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Azure — scheduled and reviewed from the same place.
- A replacement server on demand
- Recover now builds a new server on your own DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Vultr, Linode, AWS EC2, AWS Lightsail, Azure or Google Compute Engine account, from its snapshot or from its backups, software included.
- Failover on any cloud
- When a server stops answering, its traffic moves to the recovery server: by reserved or floating IP where your cloud has one, or by your DNS on Cloudflare, which works on every cloud.
- Know it's down, with the way back
- Uptime monitors for sites, ports and scheduled jobs confirm an outage before alerting, name the server's newest backup, and publish a status page. On paid plans.
- Your DNS zones, backed up
- Every record in a Cloudflare zone, kept in your own storage as a BIND file too. A restore previews what differs and writes back only that.
- Schedules that fit your traffic
- Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or a fixed interval in minutes — anchored to your timezone, so a 02:00 job stays at 02:00 across a DST change.
- Retention that prunes itself
- Set how many days to keep. Older snapshots and archives are cleaned up after each successful run, so storage bills stay flat.
- Every run on record
- Status, duration, size and trigger, with each step it took in order and its warnings and errors kept in place — so a failure tells you which step broke.
- Checksummed on upload
- Every archive is hashed as it streams to your bucket and the checksum is stored with the run, so you can verify what landed.
- Run on demand
- Trigger any job by hand before a migration or a risky deploy, without touching its schedule or its retention window.
- Alerts on five channels
- Email plus Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, and Discord — on success, on failure, and on a job that missed its schedule entirely.
- Encrypted credentials
- SSH keys, database passwords, and storage secrets are sealed with AES-256-GCM before they touch the database.
- Team access with roles
- Invite your team into a shared workspace as owner, admin, or member, so backups outlive whoever set them up.

“VPS Snaps gave us one place to manage backups across DigitalOcean, AWS, and a few standalone servers. We can schedule provider snapshots, database dumps, and file backups without maintaining a bunch of separate scripts, and the run logs make it easy to confirm everything actually completed.”
